Among the most significant dental abnormalities affecting the primary and early mixed dentition are supernumerary teeth, which can lead to poor dental and facial aesthetics as well as a number of pathological problems with the permanent dentition as it develops. Supernumerary teeth that occur in between the central incisors, specifically in the palatal region are termed as ‘mesiodens’. It has a prevalence rate between 0.3% and 3.8% among individuals. Normal tooth growth and development can be disrupted by mesiodens, which can result in infectious pulpitis, root resorption, rotation or displacement of neighbouring teeth, and delayed eruption of permanent teeth. Therefore to avoid the harmful effects of mesiodens on dentoalveolar structures, early diagnosis and treatment is essential. In this paper we discuss the management of two cases of palatally erupted mesiodens and review of literature.
