Effective nursing leadership plays a pivotal role in fostering interprofessional collaboration, particularly between nurses and pharmacists, to enhance medication safety and advance patient-centered healthcare outcomes. Medication errors remain a significant global challenge, often resulting from fragmented communication, inadequate cross-disciplinary coordination, and systemic workflow inefficiencies. By promoting collaborative leadership, nurses can bridge professional silos, encourage shared decision-making, and integrate diverse expertise into cohesive care models. At a broader level, nursing leadership strategies that prioritize open communication, mutual respect, and joint accountability create a culture of safety that supports accurate prescribing, dispensing, and administration of medications. Key leadership approaches include implementing structured interdisciplinary rounds, evidence-based handoff protocols, and technology-enabled medication reconciliation systems. Transformational and servant leadership models empower nursing leaders to engage pharmacists in care planning, promote continuous learning, and foster a non-punitive environment that encourages error reporting and system improvement. Furthermore, incorporating pharmacists into nursing education programs, simulation training, and quality improvement initiatives strengthens mutual understanding of roles and responsibilities. From a policy standpoint, nursing leaders are instrumental in advocating for organizational frameworks that institutionalize nurse–pharmacist collaboration within patient safety governance structures. Data-driven quality metrics and outcome monitoring can further evaluate the impact of such partnerships on medication adherence, adverse drug event reduction, and patient satisfaction. Ultimately, empowering nurses as collaborative leaders not only improves medication safety but also transforms interprofessional relationships into dynamic, patient-centered networks that uphold the principles of safety, efficiency, and holistic care across healthcare systems.
