Green chemistry has emerged as a cornerstone of sustainable development, offering principles and practices that reduce or eliminate hazardous substances throughout chemical processes. Its application in agriculture and public health highlights a paradigm shift from conventional, chemically intensive methods of disease management toward environmentally responsible and resource-efficient approaches. Traditional disease control strategies, particularly in crop protection and vector management, often rely on synthetic pesticides and pharmaceuticals that contribute to ecological degradation, resistance development, and adverse health effects. By contrast, green chemistry provides a framework for designing interventions that are safer, renewable, and less disruptive to ecosystems. At a broader level, the integration of green chemistry into disease control emphasizes renewable feedstocks, biodegradable formulations, and energy-efficient synthesis. Examples include bio-based pesticides derived from plant secondary metabolites, nanomaterials designed for controlled release with minimal residues, and green solvents used in drug development. These innovations address both human and plant disease burdens while aligning with sustainability goals such as reduced carbon footprints and circular resource use. Narrowing to practical applications, sustainable disease control strategies now incorporate precision delivery systems, integrated pest management (IPM), and the substitution of persistent chemicals with biodegradable alternatives. Collaborative frameworks involving policymakers, scientists, and industry stakeholders are essential to translate laboratory successes into scalable field solutions. Ultimately, the convergence of green chemistry and sustainable disease control not only mitigates environmental and health risks but also ensures resilience against evolving pathogens and pests, reinforcing global food security and public health in the face of climate and ecological challenges.
