Tulsi (Ocimum sanctum Linn.), popularly known as Holy Basil, is one of the most powerful medicinal plants in India and holds a sacred place in traditional Ayurvedic medicine. Renowned for its therapeutic potency, Tulsi contains a diverse range of bioactive compounds such as eugenol, ursolic acid, rosmarinic acid, apigenin, and linalool, which contribute to its broad-spectrum pharmacological activities. This study focuses on uncovering the bioactive secrets of Tulsi by examining its phytochemical profile and evaluating its medicinal potential through existing scientific evidence. Tulsi exhibits significant antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, adaptogenic, hepatoprotective, and immunomodulatory properties, making it an essential herb for natural health management. Its bioactive compounds play crucial roles in combating oxidative stress, inhibiting microbial growth, regulating metabolic pathways, and enhancing immune responses. The study reveals that Tulsi’s therapeutic value lies not in a single molecule but in the synergistic action of multiple phytochemicals. These findings highlight Tulsi as a promising candidate for developing herbal formulations, nutraceuticals, and future plant-based medicines. Further research on its isolated compounds and clinical applications may help unlock new dimensions of its medicinal potential.
